FFQF: Doing Something

Government can do something for the people only in proportion as it can do something to the people.   -Thomas Jefferson

I don't think I really need to elaborate very much on how this quotation from Jefferson is very relevant to our state of the nation, re: the "bailout" scandal, the AiG bonuses scandal, etc etc. Unfortunately, this kind of governmental attitude and action has become status quo. It would certainly be more newsworthy to hear of something the government is NOT doing, wouldn't it? Must the government always come on the scene, and strong-arm a "solution"?

Things are rapidly deteriorating into a mob-rule by the powers-that-be. For example, this AiG bonus fiasco: how can the government justifiably create a direct tax on those employees who received federal monies (notice that I do not call it "taxpayer monies," for it is not; the monies are a gift from the Federal Reserve Bank, which owns the government)? Wasn't it Congress that passed the bailout bill? Didn't they rush through the process, refusing to read the bill? And didn't Senator Chris Dodd twist the bill's wording so as to declude those who received bonus money? Why all this outrage, why al this pretense that government "cares" about what is "fair"?

What is left of our government, yea, our economic system? We Americans are left with advice to "shop" as a means of showing patriotism, exacerbating the inflation problem and leaving us penniless with only credit report services as a tool for future innovation and industry.

I won't rant on and on as I desire to do; so many are ranting more excellently and eloquently than I possibly can. But it is extremely evident that the government is encouraging our nation's demise. And then what will we have? A government by the bankers, for the bankers, of the bankers.

Hmm, a "government of the bankers, by the bankers, for the bankers" ... I'll betcha one of these days they'll put that on a plaque.

    Well, I wrote mine.

I know this is not a very cheery subject, but happy FFQF anyway! :)

Herky's got the right words, but I think you should get some T-shirts printed, Cato. :)

I personally like the 'shop to show our patriotism' concept... let's all get deeper in debt so we owe the government everything. Reminds me of Joseph in Genesis when he acquired all of the land for the Pharoah (who was the government)...
