FFQF: The Most Important Amendment in the Bill of Rights

I am tardy with my Favorite Founding Father's Quote Friday. But I suppose better late than never?

Continuing with the theme of the Bill of Rights (for February), I would like to briefly discuss the Most Important Amendment:

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Amongst the rights guranteed to us as American citizens endowed by our Creator, including: the right to free speech; a free press; gathering together in peace; addressing our government with grievances; a speedy and fair trial; the right to bear arms against government tyranny; to be free from government searches of our property, possession, and persons without reasonable cause and a warrant; there is included in the 10th amendment a very meaningful declaration attached to our rights: to be entirely free in matters not given to the federal government.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

The states reserve the right to do as they please, as do the people of the United States. The powers of the federal government are LIMITED and ENUMERATED. Since the early 1900s, perhaps from the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, federal powers have encroached our liberty and become more powerful with increasing rapidity. And now, here we are, practically slaves to a federal system. Our freedoms are almost completely rewritten as they have been reinterpreted. It's become a joke. All lobbyists have to do are dangle Vegas vacations before politicians' eyes, and Big Business gets their perks off the backs of the American citizens. Moreover, as if robbing We the People from our income and the incomes of future Americans isn't enough, the federal government robs us of our liberties while at the same time trying to play Santa Claus to their pet lobbyists, ensuring their continued careers within the political machines while ensuring the destruction of our free country.

We the people must remember that the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. This is OUR country and this is OUR government. I'd like to have it back, now, please.

    AMEN!!!

But try telling that to Washington. They don't care what the Constitution says anymore.

Great post, Cato! I'm glad you could participate, even though it is late.

I will probably find time to draft up the latest edition of the Bill of Rights -- the 2009 edition, shall we say?
